2027 Training News

ILOA will be holding several In-Person training sessions for new lacrosse officials in advance of the 2027 Spring season. The sessions complement the USA Lacrosse requirements for certification and are structured as follows:

Part 1

(Lax 101-102)

  • Introduces the certification process
  • Provides detail instructions on how to access USA Lacrosse coursework and materials
  • How games are assigned and the online platform used for that.
  • Intro to game management

Part 2

(Lax 103-105)

  • Foul recognition
  • Positioning and procedures
  • Field awareness

Trainees will need to attend both parts of a session and complete USA Lacrosse materials prior to advancing to on-field work. The two sessions in Westfield will both offer a second/make-up day for each part, if needed. Attending either day will satisfy the requirement for that part.

There are currently 3 Sessions scheduled:

Potential and Returning Officials,

Our reduced number of members the past couple of years has increased the game load for everyone. ILOA Directors, Officers and Committee Chairs are working hard to address recruiting and training to lessen the load on current members and to make training more approachable for new recruits.

One initiative currently under way is to recruit and train more high school-aged Junior Officials. For those of you working MaxLax this offseason, you will see them getting on-field instruction at the lower-level games.

In addition, we are also strongly encouraging youth programs to schedule Sunday play days with multiple teams. This will enable us to assign these Junior Officials and hopefully reduce the quantity of weeknight games.

This program will not entirely eliminate the need for more adult officials, so please continue to spread the word to anyone who might be interested in officiating.

As always, you can direct prospective officials to our website for training information, to register to receive training emails from the ILOA, or to check our training calendar.

If you are able to obtain contact information, please forward to our Membership Chair Jim Quirke at QUIRKE117@gmail.com or Recruitment@inlaxref.org

We will continue to update details as they firm up.

Happy holidays and we look forward to seeing you all at training!
