2019 US Lacrosse Convention Scholarship
The Indiana Lacrosse Officials Association (ILOA) is once again offering a scholarship to the US Lacrosse Convention. The purpose of this scholarship is to enhance our corps of Officials through continuing education and professional development, while creating a tool for recruitment, training and retention of Officials.

Again, ILOA is offering YOU an opportunity to apply for a scholarship to attend the 2019 US Lacrosse Convention. This scholarship will cover airfare, hotel and event registration. We encourage adult Officials to consider if this event would be helpful and meaningful to their officiating career. If this is of interest, please read eligibility and application information below.

Eligibility
Member must be in good standing with the ILOA. Good standing is defined as an actively participating official from the 2018 calendar year that has met the following criteria:
Paid ILOA member dues
Active US Lacrosse Membership
No suspensions or probations in effect
Have worked at least 15 games in the 2018 IHSLA/IYLA regular season
Must be able to travel Friday January 11th through Sunday January 13th 2019

What’s Included & Not Included in the Scholarship
Scholarship will cover the following (only):
Airfare to/from Philadelphia from a major Indiana airport
Convention registration costs
Lodging for two nights
Meals are not included and will be at your own expense
Approximate value of this scholarship is less than $1000; no cash value

TO APPLY: Submit your name, US Lacrosse # and number of years officiating, along with a written paragraph detailing why you believe the experience would enhance your officiating career and why you would be an ideal recipient. This should be submitted to Chris Purvis, via email at crpurvis4@comcast.net. All applications MUST BE RECEIVED NOT LATER THAN NOVEMBER 26th.
Accepting nominees must also supply the same information and paragraph, as outlined above. Recipient of this scholarship will be notified not later than DECEMBER 7th.

Selection Criteria
Willingness to accept various levels of games to support the needs of the association
Recognition of past and ongoing efforts to improve as an official
Clear aspiration of a long-term career as a lacrosse official
Any other documented activities which support the growth of lacrosse in Indiana
Written paragraph from applicants or nominees does not imply this is an essay contest. Rather, the content is expected to be meaningful and clearly articulate the applicant’s interest in the opportunity, along with the expected impact from the experience.
Non-biased officials and athletic administrators from other sports (football, baseball & basketball) will assist in the selection process

Rules / Clarification
Selected recipient must acknowledge, in writing, understanding of associated meal costs and incidentals.
Recipient must acknowledge that attending this event may cause missed work time with no compensation from the ILOA for lost revenue.
Airfare must meet ILOA guidelines for cheapest fare and schedule suited to the timing of the event.
Recipient must acknowledge ILOA’s expectation to fully participate in the convention educational sessions and to share their experiences with the ILOA membership upon return. Prior year recipient not eligible for this scholarship

About the Convention – January 11-13, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA
LAXCON = Simply put, to learn more about the sport you love. The US Lacrosse Convention offers dozens of educational clinics for coaches, officials and program leaders, many of which feature lacrosse’s best hosting the sessions. Before and after the clinics, take advantage of innumerable networking opportunities that will help you further develop your lacrosse IQ. Category-specific schedules will feature educational tracks for men’s and women’s coaches, men’s and women’s officials, and program leaders.

This event runs from Friday afternoon, January 11th, through Sunday morning, January 13th. Flights will typically depart very early morning on Friday, returning Sunday evening. Travel to/from PHL airport to event center is typically group-coordinated or via Rideshare. There is no need for a rental car while attending the convention.
